Every few months, we select a member who has stood out to our coaching staff. Whether it be from an athletic achievement, a body transformation, or simply a consistent display of work ethic and commitment, each one of our selected members of the month have overcome a challenge that our staff sees worthy of recognition.
For the month of August, we have chosen Sierra. Sierra has been a class member since April and has shown an incredible display of consistency and work ethic. She made nearly every additional class and workout challenge that we have offered over the summer weekends and has been a sponge when it comes to the more technical lifts and exercises. Thank you for making coaching fun for us Sierra!
1. When did you start your fitness journey?
My fitness journey started in my late teens. I was given the choice between a new laptop or a gym membership for Christmas and I chose the latter! Since then I’ve always tried to make a conscious effort to take care of myself. I also started doing yoga in my early twenties and I’ve found that to be extremely beneficial for all aspects of my health.
Back in January, like so many people, I decided I wanted and needed to “get back on track”. I spent a few months doing things on my own until I decided I needed to ramp up my routine. That’s when I found Sled Dogs!
2. How has American Sled Dogs elevated your fitness journey and what is the biggest highlight of your time here as a member?
American Sled Dogs has enhanced my journey tremendously. I’ve noticed a big improvement in my strength and stamina. The sense of community is also extremely empowering! Meeting people of all backgrounds and fitness levels is proof that anyone can do it.
3. What are your fitness goals?
My fitness goals are to continue building my strength and to maintain my overall health. It’s critical to me on a personal level to feel strong and have enough energy to get through my day. I’m not super concerned with looking a certain way, but I definitely feel amazing when I’m able to add weight to something I couldn’t previously add weight to.
4. What keeps you motivated to achieve your goals?
The main thing that keeps me motivated is my need to always try to be the best version of myself, so I can feel my best and the people in my life can depend on me.
5. What is your favorite exercise and training day?
I enjoy conventional deadlifts and pretty much any type of ab workout.
6. What is your job/career?
I’m a Sonar Technician in the Navy, a part-time college student, and I occasionally volunteer at the Norfolk Zoo.
7. Do you have a funny, special or memorable story about the American Sled Dogs gym you’d like to share?
I don’t really have one particular story, but I’m a huge klutz so I usually end up laughing at myself at least once every class!
