Roz was chosen for the most recent Member Spotlight, an honor chosen collectively by all of the coaches. The members we choose are examples of the mindset and intensity of what a good member should be. Roz is one of our most consistent class members. She brings her A-game to each workout and has come a long way since first becoming a member two years ago. We are very happy to have her as part of our gym family.
1. When did you start your fitness journey?
Some time ago I joined a local gym in the area and I would go here and there when I felt like it. But I believe my true fitness journey started two years ago when I joined American Sled Dogs.
2. How has American Sled Dogs elevated your fitness journey and what is the biggest highlight of your time here as a member?
After every workout, I feel good about myself and what I accomplished during training. We learn a ton about proper lifting technique and how to use the bar correctly. I DEFINITELY feel stronger both physically and mentally and wouldn’t be where I am today without the coaches.
My biggest highlight as member at American Sled Dogs is how much I’ve improved in my deadlift and backsquat. I also can’t forget to mention the amount of confidence I’ve gained. Before I would be scared to try a new workout but now I’m willing to try anything and give it my best effort. I have definitely come a long way.
3. What are your fitness goals?
I want to gain muscle and get some abs like Ashley! I would also like to improve my running. I’m not much of a runner, but all the conditioning we do throughout the week has helped me get better at it.
4. What keeps you motivated to achieve your goals?
The 6am class keeps me motivated. We push each other to do our best. I love being surrounded by these amazing group of people. I consider them my family. The coaches also keep me motivated to achieve my goals. Whenever I feel like I can’t do more they motivate and push me to get through whatever obstacle is in front of me.
5. How did you hear about American Sled Dogs?
I heard about the gym through Ashley Horner. When I heard she was opening up a gym in the 757 I was kind of hesitant and nervous about joining. I thought it was gonna be like a Crossfit gym. I can tell you that its so much more! When I finally got the guts to join a class they welcomed me with open arms. I’ve been a loyal member since they opened two years ago.
6. What is your favorite exercise and training day?
Anything involving the barbell. I love deadlifts and front squats. It’s a good feeling when beat a former 5 rep max. I also like when we do the longer metcons that make me get my sweat on.
7. What is your job/career?
I am an Interventional Technologist in the radiology department at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. I have been a tech for 13 years and Sentara employee for 15 years.
